Slots Glossary — Terms Every Filipino Player Should Know
Online slots come with a lot of jargon. Here's a plain-English breakdown of the terms

RTP (Return to Player)
The percentage of all wagered money a slot is mathematically designed to pay back over millions of spins. A 97% RTP slot returns ₱97 for every ₱100 wagered — on average, over a very long run. Individual sessions can be wildly different in either direction.
Example: A ₱50 spin on a 96.5% RTP slot contributes to an expected long-run return of ₱48.25 — but your actual result on that one spin could be anywhere from ₱0 to ₱50,000.
Volatility (Variance)
How a slot distributes its payouts. Low volatility = frequent small wins, stable bankroll. High volatility = rare wins but much larger amounts when they hit. Neither is better — it depends on your playing style and bankroll size.
Example: A low-volatility slot might pay ₱15 every 3 spins. A high-volatility slot might pay nothing for 50 spins, then drop ₱12,000 on spin 51.
Payline
A line across the reels where matching symbols must land to form a winning combination. Classic slots have 1–9 paylines; modern video slots often have 25, 50, 243, or even thousands of ways to win that aren't traditional lines at all.
Example: A 25-payline slot with ₱1 per line = ₱25 per spin. Many games let you adjust the number of active paylines to manage cost.
Wild Symbol
Substitutes for other symbols to help complete winning combinations. Think of it as a joker card for reels. Many slots have special Wilds — Expanding Wilds (cover an entire reel), Sticky Wilds (stay in place for multiple spins), or Multiplier Wilds (boost the win when completing a combo).
Example: You have Cherry – Cherry – Wild on a payline. The Wild completes the Cherry combo, paying out as if three Cherries landed.
Scatter Symbol
Pays regardless of position on the reels — doesn't need to be on a payline. Scatters typically trigger the Free Spins bonus when three or more appear in a single spin. Landing Scatters is usually the most anticipated event in any base game spin.
Example: Three Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels = 10 Free Spins triggered. The reels light up, and you're in the bonus round.
Free Spins
A bonus feature where you spin a set number of times without deducting from your balance. Free spin rounds often include enhanced features — higher multipliers, extra Wilds, or Megaways expansions — making them significantly more valuable than base game spins.
Example: 12 free spins triggered on a slot with a 3× multiplier during the feature. A ₱100 win in the feature pays ₱300.
Megaways
A proprietary reel mechanic where each reel can show 2–7 symbols per spin, changing randomly. The total number of ways to win changes every spin — typically between 64 and 117,649. Developed by Big Time Gaming and licensed to dozens of providers.
Example: On one spin, 6 reels show 7-7-7-7-7-7 symbols = 7⁶ = 117,649 ways to win. The next spin might show 2-3-4-3-2-3 = far fewer.
Hit Frequency
The percentage of spins that result in any win (including tiny ones below your bet size). A 30% hit frequency means roughly 3 in 10 spins show a winning combination. High hit frequency doesn't mean profitable — many wins are smaller than the cost of the spin.
Example: A slot with 35% hit frequency and low volatility will show a lot of wins on screen — but many of those "wins" return ₱3 on a ₱20 spin.
